Yellowknife Amateur Radio Club Fox Hunt Rules
01. Hunter’s will meet at Tim Horton’s at 9am on Saturday.
02. The Hunt will be performed in Teams of 2 randomly determined at the Start-line. Team hunts help prepare us for real life searches and ensure the safe operation of vehicles.
03. Cut-off for name draws will be 9:30am, but every effort will be made to involve all interested hunters.(ie, hunters only available after noon, etc.)
04. We will schedule 3 hunts and draw 3 Foxes randomly from those willing to be the Fox. This will be determined prior to hunt day. Foxes will be mobile in a vehicle, but not necessarily the foxes normal vehicle.
05. Hunt frequency will be 146.565 MHz simplex
06. Fox has 5watts max power.

08. Fox transmits every 10 minutes for 2 minutes. The Fox will transmit on the hour and every 10 mins there after, based on VE8YK repeater time.
09. VE8YK will be used to co-ordinate the hunts and announce when the fox is hidden. A 2 min warning will be given prior to the first transmission.
10. There will be a 2 hour limit on all hunts. This should be more than enough time. The time allowed for the 2nd and 3rd hunts may be amended based on the length of the first
11. First Fox heads out to hide at 0940
12. First Hunt begins at 1000
13. The hunt will be called at 1200 if no Hound has been successful, otherwise hunt is over 30 mins after first hound successful. (This is to give all participants a chance to find the Fox)
14. Second Fox heads out to hide at 1240
15. Second Hunt begins at 1300
16. The hunt will be called at 1500 if no Hound has been successful, otherwise hunt is over 30 mins after first hound successful. (This is to give all participants a chance to find the Fox)
17. Third Fox heads out to hide at 1540
18. Third Hunt begins at 1600
19. The hunt will be called at 1800 if no Hound has been successful, otherwise hunt is over 30 mins after first hound successful. (This is to give all participants a chance to find the Fox)
20. No odometer reading will be necessary for this group of hunts, (unless the majority feels strongly enough to do so)
21. General rules:
22. All drivers should make every effort to drive with proper care and responsibility and not allow the exercise to interfere with the safe operation of their vehicle. Drivers remember you have a teammate to take meter readings etc., Alternatively plan your stops and wait for the 10 min apart transmissions.
23. Try not to exceed posted speed limits.
24. Unless otherwise specified, all foxes will hide within 6kms of the corners of 50th/50th in Yellowknife as outlined on the map.
25. Foxes should not hide on private or restricted property. Malls, parking lots, no charge parks are usually ok.
