Burnham Beeches Radio Club (UK) reports that the German regulator Bundesnetzagentur (the Federal Network Agency for Electricity, Gas, Telecommunications, Post and Railways) has banned sales of the Baofeng UV-5R handheld transceiver citing Amtsblatt 22 (Gazette 22).  Apparently the Polish regulator Urzad Komunikacji found that lab tests showed that the radio failed to meet relevant EU Directives and standards.  These standards may relate to spectral purity but also the power output and proximity of humans to the antenna.
